I am strongly opposed to ERO #025-1257 that endeavours to amalgamate the governance of conservation authorities and have them run by the Ontario government. Although the term "modernizing" is used, it appears to primarily be a consolidation of power and money to expedite exploiting the land for the benefit of Conservative developer donors. There would be nothing to stop the clear cutting of trees to sell the lumber, building on the land and possibly mining the land to sell the minerals, all for private sector profit at the financial and health expense of Ontario's taxpayers. We do not need the rich to become more wealthy, we need the trees to improve our air quality, reduce floods, provide habitats and improve mental health. We also need to protect farmland from development to protect our food supply. Most Ontario taxpayers are already struggling financially and we do not need to pay for another Ontario agency when competent local organizations are already in place.
