Moving to only 7 authorities will reduce the capacity of their impact. Merging Lake Superior with Lake Heron is nonsensical. The environments and their challenges are completely different. When the claim is made to improve local knowledge yet the watersheds are 1500km that is a joke. With climate change and the stresses to the environment which sustain Ontarian that is a cost we cannot afford. Investing in our waterways is essential.
My family has had a yearly membership to the Lakehead Conservation Authority for years. As an organization they provide incredible services to the public at low costs. The average time to have a permit approved is 5 days. Perhaps some organizations do not provide the same results but why is the goal not the improve those as opposed to cutting resources to high preforming ones?
The conservation authorities do more than provide recreation opportunities they save lives. The regular water monitoring protect the public from floods causing danger to the public and increases costs to private and public property.
