I believe that there needs to be more oversight with the governance of the conservation authorities in Ontario. The Niagara Peninsula, conservation authority, was used as a personal steppingstone into regional council positions that people were certainly not qualified for. Removing local conservation authorities doesn’t seem like the correct answer as each conservation authority is in a specific area, which is absolutely different conservation concerns, and needs. We will end up seeing more flooding and more destruction of green spaces.
And while I vote conservative, Doug Ford”s Previous attempt to sell off green belt property to his developer friends shows that this current government is not the one to provide oversight for anybody. Especially not conservation authorities.
Our local NPCA has done a lot of great work and we have volunteered for them. I trust that currently right now they are doing what’s best for the Niagara region, even though they may have had not the best people in senior management positions., the conservation officers, and the Frontline workers have done an amazing job, so I think you should just keep your hands off.
