We in Northern Ontario do not want our conservation authority to be amalgamated into larger groups, for many many reasons. Not only do we have different needs here in the North, we are already at a disadvantage compared to our Southern cities. We have less access to medical care and have trusted that Ontario would offset these additional costs but have NOT.
Corporations in this new push to 'build' will absolutely take advantage of the North's resources and steamroll our objections against damaging our ecosystem.
In my city alone, the cancer rates are higher than the provincial and national rates because we are a steel town. We don't need JOBS at the expense of our children's HEALTH.
Canada needs to reset it's thinking when it comes to what metrics are used to determine if we are 'winning' or not, and it cannot be tied to GDP. Health, happiness, and standard of living must be at the top of the list, because companies are raping us with the assistance of government; paying less than living wages while the value of our labour and resources are being funneled to rich shareholders.
This push-back has to start somewhere, and the defense of our independent conservation authorities have to be upheld.
Thank you
