I am not in support of the plan to consolidate Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities.
This dangerous plan paves the way for unchecked development in floodplains at the expense of public safety, homeowner insurance rates and environmental impacts.
Conservation authorities work best on the existing watershed basis and work efficiently with their member municipalities. Perhaps if you hadn't cut funding to conservation authorities, there would be more consistentcy in the way services are provided across the 36 authorities. The proposed consolidation will not lead to efficiency.
Maintain existing watersheds, maintain Conservation Ontario as the main hub of policy and program development and reinstate the funding you cut to ensure consistent supports across all 36 conservation authorities to help support building in the right places, quickly.
I’m urging you to stop the consolidation immediately. This is not the right way forward.
Thank you for considering my comment.
