The new "restructuring" of the conservation authorities is an effort to undermine the ability of current conservation authorities to effectively manage and protect the natural resources that belong to all ONTARIO residents! My family lives in the Oakridge's moraine which is a sensitive watershed area and residents in our area rely on well water as their primary drinking water source, as well as to manage livestock and produce crops. It is essential that this sensitive watershed area is managed locally with experts in the area who understand the specific challenges/etc. in our area in order to ensure that these essential waterways do not become contaminated.
The Ontario government is again trying to erode public agencies that are functioning, in order to make them inefficient, ultimately allowing the government to push through their agendas without the necessary consultation or in order to privatize these organizations.
Access to clean water is a HUMAN right and has been recognized by the Canadian government as such since 2012! The Ontario government is once again opening themselves up to multiple litigations (which of course, we as taxpayers, will pay for), despite knowledge that they should not be following this course of action. In addition, as conservation is a SHARED responsibility, the Federal government may need to become involved in order to help the Ontario government (who has already had a scandal with the Greenbelt review in 2022) meet their responsibilities and uphold their obligations and commitments to Ontario residents!
Shame on the Ontario government!
