To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express my deep opposition to the boundary changes to Ontario's Conservation Authorities. I agree that CA's sharing administrative systems to improve effectiveness is desirable. That being said, the boundary changes required to reduce our current number of CAs to 7 oversized and likely unmanageable authorities is not about finding efficiencies.
This is about centralizing authority and control in the hands of the newly established Conservation Agency. Given this governments lack of concern with preserving our natural heritage ie Greenbelt land swaps, Bill 26, Bill 212 and more and its rush to develop land at all costs ie the destruction of Nashville Nature Preserve to build the proposed Highway 413, I have no confidence that the amalgamation process will maintain Conservation Authorities role in preserving land, habitat, waterways and flood plains. However, it will reduce the local knowledge and expertise to make decisions in the best interest of the communities that Conservation Authorities are currently responsible to.
This is not a step forward in protecting Ontario's communities and future generations against climate disasters. It is a massive step toward increased and indiscriminate development. The question to ask is who does that develop serve?
