I disagree with the consolidation of the conservation authorities. This seems to be a short-sighted attempt to consolidate power to the Province. I think that local planning is the best way to maintain knowledge and understanding and ensure that unique municipal characters can exist. The original Act was based on municipalities wanting the authority for their watershed and to have local planning.

I think if there are problems, then provide support and direction needed rather than uploading them to the province. The best way to do this would be to create standards for transparency, data and modeling standards and mandatory review periods for applications. The best way to do this would be to have something like the ERO where an application is posted and the processing of the application is updated to show how the authority is meeting the standard. This would meet the desires of the province while maintaining local control. If an authority can’t consistently meet the standard, then it would indicate to that board that there is a management problem. This seems like the least disruptive solution without creating a monster that takes away municipal autonomy and identity.
