I am opposed to the amalgamation of Conservation Authorities. Like many municipalities and the Conservation Authorities I understand the need for local control of these key environmental areas. Politics should not be part of the running of important public assets. We do not want another Green Belt fiasco. Nor do we want to see public lands sold to developers as happened in Wasaga. The Conservation Authorities play a key role in reducing risks - such as flooding. As the government is not dealing with Climate issues we know more catastrophic weather events will take place. We need Conservation lands as a buffer. Habitat needs to be protected not mismanaged by political appointees who do not understand the local environment.
