I am looking forward to the amalgamation of the Sault Ste Marie regional conservation authority which was recently brought forward. At one time this organization truly worked to protect the Hiawatha highlands area and other sites around the city. Unfortunately this organization has been infiltrated and is being run by employees, board members( some being city officials and club members )that have their own best interests at heart and care little if any about the actual protection of the areas they govern. This local entity is very hard to deal with and extremely standoffish when ideas, requests or complaints are brought forward to them. Unless it benefits the clubs they belong to and support none of the above are approved or brought forward for proper discussion or consideration.
On a side note, in the last several years this conservation authority has knowledge and has participated in dangerous tactics to keep anyone besides the clubs that they support off the properties which include digging deep dangerous trenches at access points and blocking access to trails and areas that have been used by many for generations for such activities as fishing or throughway access to crown land. They block bridges with concrete barriers and sand dunes to purposely stop anyone besides their hand picked clubs from also enjoying the properties.
This conservatism Authority should be disbanded immediately and left to be managed and governed by a higher entity that we can only hope won't be influenced by local individuals trying to personally get ahead.
