I was recently required to consult with my local conservation authority for approval on a construction project. Not only were the recommendations reasonable and inline with the proposed scope of my project, but the response was quite timely. I initially heard back from the authority within hours of sending my site plan. I cannot see how changing the boundaries and reducing the number of conservation authorities will improve the timing for project approval. I expect it will both increase delays for projects to start, and reduce the safe guards to protect our natural environment. As a homeowner within the boundaries of a conservation authority, I see great value in the flood monitoring and mitigation strategies provided by our authorities. As overland flooding is expected to worsen in the coming years, it does not seem wise to increase the area each authority must manage. I strongly oppose this plan to consolidate our conservation authorities.
