I do not support the proposed amalgamation of Ontario’s conservation authorities. As a resident of the Niagara region, I believe this change is not in our best interest. Our local conservation authority has deep knowledge of Niagara’s unique watersheds, ecosystems, agricultural lands, and flood risks, and that local expertise is critical to effective environmental stewardship and public safety. Amalgamation risks weakening local decision-making, reducing accountability, and prioritizing efficiency over the specific environmental needs of our region. Conservation authorities work best when they are locally governed, locally informed, and responsive to the communities they serve. I urge the government to maintain Niagara’s conservation authority as an independent, locally focused organization.
