Like many Ontarians, I agree with Hamilton Conservation Authorities submission to the ERO. I am concerned about losing local decision-making and I support keeping conservation decisions rooted in our community.
I am someone who cares about the oversight of nature, the ways in which water travels, the stewards of the land, and the teams of highly trained staff who oversee the actions of the public, and give a voice to the voiceless. I oppose the changes put forth by the sitting government for many reasons, and worry about the years it will set us back as caretakers of this planet, and the powers it will undo that took years to put in place. I worry most about the effects this will have on our children, and the precedent it will set for other provinces to strip away authority, and cause greater harm to this great Earth.
If polled right now, could you name 50 bird species, as well as 50 fish, 50 plants, or 50 insects? Can you name the types of clouds? Which direction does water flow in your community? Do you know what types of rock the Niagara Escarpment is made out of? If you can't, please keep the people in power who can. Leave protecting the environment up to our Conservation Authorities, and put a new ERO forward that ensures every Ontario watershed has an authority, for we need more, not fewer.
