It is of utmost importance to KEEP CONSERVATION LOCAL, using people who understand the challenges of local waterways in ways that is impossible for centralized decision makers to understand.
Decisions made from afar will not reflect the area’s unique environmental, agricultural and community needs. Local expertise is essential for protecting our Species at Risk through local programs (especially turtles at the Environmentally sensitive Dorchester Millpond) We need to protect these local programs and services and the Species at Risk Biologists who help out in local communities.
PLEASE DO NOT go ahead with amalgamation of 8 conservation authorities to form Lake Erie Regional Conservation Authority, it is too large an area to remain effective and responsive… I have volunteered with environmental groups locally since 1997 and cannot imagine the chaos if we didn’t have a local Conservation Authority to provide education and technical advise for ongoing projects.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share from my perspective.
