Please support the municipal planning process as it was responsibly developed to promote community growth in a safe and sustainable manner while reaching all intended growth targets.
The Auditor General of Ontario has raised serious concerns (link) about how Minister’s Zoning Orders (MZOs) are being used, including:
"MZOs have been used to override municipal zoning"
“did not consistently assess whether re-zoning by MZO, as opposed to the municipal planning process, was needed”
“...some projects on the sites re-zoned with an MZO will not have access to servicing (e.g. water, wastewater)”
“...now face foreseeable and significant delays", “these delays beg the question why an MZO was used instead of the municipal planning process”
That is why residents are being asked to speak up now, before permanent decisions are made.
Thank you
