I am writing to declare my strong opposition to the "open-for-business planning tool" section of Bill 66.
The economic benefits gained by municipalities will be vastly outweighed by the health and environmental costs put onto the public. The Randle Reef Contaminated Sediment Remediation Project will cost 138.9 million, an order of magnitude higher than the proposed 4 million dollars that will be saved by industry annually. The contaminated sediment resulted from the lack of concern surrounding emission of toxic substances. The public has had to take the brunt of the financial, environmental, and heath cost. Instances such as this will become more prominent in the future if this section is passed.
Ontario cannot afford to move backwards on the environmental issues for the benefit of a few individuals. This section of Bill 66 is both economically and environmentally irresponsible.
