As more pressure is put on species in Ontario as a whole, it is unconscionable that those species already at risk are threatened further by watering down the Species At Risk legislation. This legislation should be strengthened to improve its effectiveness and provide greater protection, rather than being watered down to make it easier for business and industry to do as they wish. We should be encouraging recovery of species as well as protecting those already threatened; diluting the legislation even more than it is already will only exacerbate even further the threat to both habitat and species. We will all be the poorer when species disappear: extinction is forever. Please strengthen the Species at Risk legislation and provide a stronger basis from which we can protect our environment for future generations.
