Extinction is permanent and human activity has already launched the planet into the 6th mass extinction event which will ultimately threaten the ability of the biosphere to support human life. Ecocide - destruction of a species or its habitat - should be a criminal offence in every nation and should also be recognized as an International Crime Against Peace (like genocide) and prosecuted by the ICC. Making it easier for transnational corporations to destroy the biosphere is a very bad idea because life - in all its wonder and diversity - is far more important than 'jobs' or 'shareholder value.'
