In regards to the above project proposal of the Otter Creek wind turbines, we are NOT in favour of this project. We will have 3 wind turbines constructed within a mile from our home and farm. We are most concerned with our water wells being contaminated with the construction of these turbines. Our wells service our homes, our worker's homes and feed the cattle on our farm of which we earn our income. We currently have safe drinking water from our wells which are tested regularly. In the Dover area many wells have been contaminated and also since they have started construction for the North Kent wind project, 4 wells have become contaminated in the last few weeks. We are also concerned with the next generation who have to farm in these areas. We have two adult sons who are taking over the family farm and have to live with the effects of these turbines for years to come. These turbines devalue our property which we have worked very hard to own. More research needs to be done on the disruption of the aquifer and how it affects the water before another wind turbine is constructed. We recently updated our Canada-Ontario Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) 4th edition and in Section 2 "Water Wells" it states: "The majority of people who live in rural Ontario get their drinking water from wells. It's a lot easier and cheaper to prevent contamination than to try and clean it up. Treating the water, constructing a new well or getting water from another source are all inconvenient and expensive." By taking these EFP classes, we as farmers have a responsibility to take every precaution in keeping our water and our neighbour's water clean and safe from contamination. Why doesn't this apply to everyone?
