The fact that baiting bears is legal at all is shocking. And let's be honest, baiting animals it is not hunting. People across the country are working hard to encourage people to keep their garbage out of reach of bears to stop creating problem bears that frequent public areas, yet you are allowing "hunters" to place bait only 200m away from public from rights of way and recreational trails and want to reduce that even further? Absolutely ridiculous! To decrease the distance to only 30m would increase the danger to the public, not just from the bears that the "hunters" are encouraging to come close but also from the so called "hunters" themselves. If they need to bait the bears to begin with, it doesn't provide much faith that they are an accurate shot. The "hunters" are the problem, not the bears. I strongly disagree with this proposed change and encourage you not to allow it to take place. Instead, I suggest that you rethink the use of baiting at all, as it already creates an unnecessary risk to the public.
