I wish to communicate my concern about the environmental and social impact of using groundwater for bottled water.
Ontario must continue to work for the public good and be a steward of our natural resources and ecology for the sustainable development of all.
Water is essential for life and should not be commercialized. If the government allows bottled water permits again it will be placing transnational and other corporate profits before the health and welfare of the people and the environment of our great province. Since companies have in the past paid next to nothing for the vast quantities of water they have taken, there is no incentive for the government in terms of fiscal support. Instead, it is a form of corporate welfare.
The impact of bottled water on the health of our province will be felt for many generations to come.
The government must protect groundwater and watersheds to guarantee that all Ontarians have access to high quality water for daily consumption and to ensure this continues for the distant future.
