Mr. Barton Fielders.

Manager, Policy Division

Ministry of Natural Resources

300 Water Street

Peteborough, ON

Dear Mr. Fielders.

I have just learned that the Ministry of Natural Resources is proposing that the cottage leases in Rondeau Park may not be renewed and that the long term goal is to eventually phase out the existence of all cottages at Rondeau Park by 2038.

I have a friend who owns a cottage in Rondeau and I, as well as my husband and children have had the pleasant opportunity to visit them on several occasions. We have explored the nature trails; my children are always asking when are we going back to the interpretive centre; we have enjoyed the beaches, the safe environment to ride our bikes and in summary, their cottage is by far, one of the most enjoyable places that we can visit for $12.00.

My friend and her family take better care of their property than any camper or day visitor. I’ve seen campers litter, empty beer bottles at their sites and all sorts of things that never happen at our friend’s cottage. They take pride in their natural surroundings and remind us of it on each visit.

We would not be able to afford a weekend away with a family of 4. The costs of accommodations, meals and the additional distance we’d have to travel prohibits this. Without the cottage, we would not even consider traveling to Rondeau.

Mr. Fielder, I vote every municipal, provincial and federal election. I don’t have a lot of strong political loyalties, but I do have a lot of loyalty to my friends. Rest assured that any political party that supports this proposal will not receive my vote and I’ll make sure that I share my opinion with everyone I know.

I really think you and your Ministry are making a huge mistake.

Respectfully,
