To whom it may concern,
I am writing to you with regards to the proposed application and recommend it be rejected outright or considered for another location that is more suitable, i.e. more specifically a less densely populated area like a rural setting.
The numbered company in question has not been forthcoming and open about the possible problems from this plant. They conveniently gave notice to only property owners and tenants within 300m, and later revised this to 500m of the proposal site. This plant will have far reaching effects well beyond these households. They also have failed to considered the public at large which includes those that frequent the area for recreational activities including sports, nature walks, sunbathing, hang gliding, school children visiting the area, children participating in swimming and gymnastics and animal owners out with their pets. People from through out Ward 25 and beyond frequent the area in question.
The company needs to clearly answer community concerns. The 620 metric tons of organic waste every day of the year is more organics than the City of Toronto handles at its own processing plants. One hundred (100) trucks or more, full of waste passing schools, homes, parks, walkers, joggers and other members of the community every day is unacceptable. Considering the company plans to process 1,240 metric tons of organics per day, with about 50% leaving the site for other plants will necessitate more trucks traveling the community roads and exasperate the safety issues.
A similar proposal was rejected where the Highland Creek Sewage Treatment Plan would be the site with only 5 trucks per day 5 days of the week. Why would this proposal be viewed favorably with 100 - 200 trucks traveling to/from the site, each and everyday, 24 hours of the day and 12 months of the year.
The 6 identified noxious gases identified by the company are reason enough to raise concern of the Ward 25, Toronto Public Health and the Ministry of the Environment. With no study on the impact of the environment, public health, or traffic studies this leads me to believe this company is acting irresponsibly and has no concerns for the local residents. Assessments by Toronto Public Health regarding the affect on local the communities, heavy truck traffic studies by Toronto Traffic Management and studies on the impact on the environment by the Minister of Environment must be done and evaluated before considering such an application.
With Covid-19 still a major concern for all , there should an extension of 2 months for submission of comments past the present deadline of May 24. Families have been and are still preoccupied with their physical and mental health, jobs, children and other daily stresses from the current pandemic.
In closing this proposal would best be suited in a rural area that is closer to the source/destination of the materials being transported and where less people's health, safety and environmental surroundings will be adversely impacted.
