I appreciate the efforts that have gone into creation of the agricultural zones for protection. It is a difficult task to say the least. I do have some concerns regarding the mapping, particularly in the edge mapping between the south shore of Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment area. This area has some of the most unique lands for special crop and they are within close proximity to urban areas. That in itself is not really the issue. The issue would be the lands that are the remnant parcels, or small parcels that are surrounded by urban areas, or lands that the last small piece of designated special crop lands within an area that is built up. Often these lands have been disturbed by development pressures and have limited to no capability for agricultural production without significant investment. I feel that it would be prudent to carefully examine these edge areas prior to 'broad brush' painting or designation of all these lands as based on GIS interpretation.
