Thank you for planning ti improve the blue box program in Ontario. I applaud your efforts, but with one concern.
If you only make producers responsible for blue box costs, you are effectively offering the worst producers of the most harmful goods, a de factor license to carry on. Please don't do that.
It would be preferable to identify plans to sharply reduce the numbers of packaging items produced by encouraging an end to over-packaging and a transition to dissolving wrappings that are environmentally-friendly packaging where packaging is absolutely needed.
I think we need a purchasing economy that functions more like the old LCBO stores and Consumers stores use to function. Customers filled out a form, paid and their bottle of liquor or item was brought to them. Consumers used to supply full packaging, but we need a culture where consumers receive the item and not the box, plastic, etc.
There's no good reason for Ontarians to have to haul two bags of packaging home with them every time they buy four bags of groceries!
