The use of MZOs without an openly transparent, public motion by a municipal Council is untenable. Public engagement is the backbone of democracy at the municipal level, and to have this removed to the Provincial level, is beyond reproach. We need to protect our democracy. After watching what has occurred with our neighbours to the south in the past weeks, the need for democratic processes, already existing, to be followed is immense. Further, the need for people in power to admit mistakes, backtrack on past decisions not following these processes, and to be true to their spoken and written words, is required.
