Ontario has a long history of local municipal planning and Conservation area planning and input.
I'm concerned about the new provision in Ontario's Planning Act.
I cannot support the Minister having enhanced authority in planning orders. Yes, dealing at the local level may cause delays. But it is wrong to give the Minister precedence over local planning boards and Conservation Authorities. How can anyone argue in favour of a situation where the Minister may over rule local wishes? We have a 3 tiered system of government, with responsibilities divided!
It may be too late to rectify this situation, but I want to express my strong misgivings about giving the Minister enhanced authority in planning orders.
