I have lived in Ajax for 6 years and as someone who uses the parks land around here very often, I have to say that protecting our current green belt is 1000x more important than providing new detached housing. There's so few preserved and protected lands in this area and if we're able to expand that it would not only be beneficial for wild life, but it would be helpful for the physical and mental well being of the residents. A recent example of this is Greenwood Conservation area. The land is so beautiful and I've seen so many animals through there over the past 5 years, but recently just across the street, massive plot of land attached to the west edge of Greenwood was sold , rezoned and is now being developed into homes. That area was pristine conservation area and now all I hear is construction in the woods when I'm hiking during the day. That land could have been protected, instead we're going to have 500 new homes there and Greenwood will be overrun with people, due to the proximity.
I think we should be protecting any wooded and wetland areas we have left, not building commercial or residential real estate on them.
