It’s important that initiatives such as expanding the Greenbelt continue in order for us to avoid catastrophic climate change. In fact, I believe the Greenbelt should be expanded to include the majority of land in southern Ontario, and even stretch into eastern Ontario. By tightening the belt on urban sprawl, we not only tackle the challenges it brings to reducing our carbon footprint, but also reduces heat-retaining roofs and roads, reduces dependence on cars which in turn leads to health benefits, and reduces costs of sprawling infrastructure. It’s a win-win. Developers will surely cry about not being able to fill thousands of acres with cookie-cutter houses, but they’ll adapt and will undoubtedly come up with new, innovative & environmentally friendly housing types.

Ontario needs to be bold and lead the world in conservation. Doing so will surely lead to massive investments by leading green tech and high-tech firms.

Expand the Greenbelt! At a minimum it should be doubled in size, but be bold, do more!
