Cancelling Cap and Trade is a move that runs counter to practical, economically responsible greenhouse gas reduction. Cancelling Cap and Trade is a terrible idea proposed by a party that has remained ignorant of (at best), or knowingly complicit in (at worst) the increasing negative results of climate change.
The Cap and Trade system should remain in place while other options and timelines are discussed. Stopping one of the only practical, actionable solutions that has been put into place at a provincial level to fight a very real threat is a measure that will only serve to delay further solutions, increase the impact of climate change once it is finally addressed on a practical level, and cost the province additional court fees as established economic models and business plans are thrown into upheaval.
The requirement that the Minister develop a climate change plan is laudable. The idea that we should scrap our existing plan and go back to the drawing board is laughable. Keep the requirement for the development of a climate change plan and scrap the cancellation of Cap and Trade. They can be and should be considered separate points in two separate bills.
