Re: Suspension of Protection of Black Ash
The Sault Naturalists of Ontario and Michigan strongly oppose the amendments to the Species at Risk Act that would suspend protection of Black ash under the Act while further studies are undertaken. It is clearly stated in the Act that lack of knowledge should not be used as an excuse to delay protection of Species at Risk. Using the Precautionary Principle the full powers of the Act should be in force while further studies are undertaken to inform the Recovery Plan.
We are also opposed to amendment 242/08 as this is far to general in scope and could undermine the integrity of the Act.
