As an avid bowhunter in the 93A WMU, I'm 100% supportive of this.
With that being said I feel it should be taken a little further and bowhunting during the controlled hunts in all WMU's should not require a hunter to be successful in a CH draw. In my opinion bowhunters put more in to the economy now than ever before, with the price of modern equipment, trail camera use, the high cost of fuel and many other costs associated with being a successful bowhunter, so to not be given the opportunity to hunt during the best week of the entire season (First week Nov.) as the result of a draw can be quite frustrating and disappointing. I'm assuming the reason draws in specific WMU's such as mine, are not 100% success rate is due to safety and the number of hunters per square kilometer with firearms. 93A offers additional deer seals so I cannot imagine it has to do with harvest rates. As I understand that safety concern and agree with it , I strongly feel my proposal would not increase the level of risk as even if the number of hunters per square mile increased the effective range of the weapon and the style and mentality of bowhunters would not change the risk level from where it currently stands.
I'm not fortunate enough to own property however I am fortunate enough to have private permission on several properties and some of those I pay a fee for that sole permission. I spend hours scouting all year and put thousands into the economy, when purchasing gas and equipment. I'm not asking for every hunter to be issued a gun tag every year, just that every bowhunter be given the opportunity to be in the woods during the weeks that provide the highest opportunity to harvest a white-tail using the most difficult means - Archery.
