I am writing to oppose the proposed implementation pause of the Excess Soil Requirements, which are notably already in effect.
The public registry of source and "reuse" sites and requirements should not be delayed. Protection of the environment should not be put on hold to accommodate those who have not been keeping up with the regulatory changes.
Many communities in Ontario are affected by dumping of soils and illegal dumping and they need protection now.
I am also concerned that the statement in the ERO posting that the pause would provide "opportunity to make some adjustments" will translate into a weakening of the environmental requirements and registration.
Protection, tracking and enforcement need strengthening - not weakening and there should be no delay or pause.
