Suburban development costs money in the long run. Many municipalities are finding it difficult to pay for the infrastructure they have currently, let alone adding more developments (water, roads, etc).

Yes we need housing, but in-fil it, in already urbanized settings. Toronto is 74% zoned for single detached homes. That's ridiculous.

Instead of opening up protected greenspace, densify cities we already have (which is less costly) and more efficient - especially when methodical around thoughtful development, like around transportation networks reducing reliance on personal vehicles.
