There should be no going back on promises. It was promised that the greenbelt would not be touched. There should be other avenues explored first before backtracking.
Before any proposal of this nature goes into effect, there should be sufficient research and consultations from environmentalists, including insight into what would be lost, as well as general positive feedback from affected communities, before any action should be taken. I would hope that, along with addressing the housing crisis, multiple viewpoints are considered. Still, my original thought that this would be backtracking on a promise not even made that long ago is already a negative.
