Ontario must protect our contiguous greenbelt spaces from development if we are to create sustainable and workable cities.
Young people want to stay in our urban areas for work, they don't want sprawl, they don't want single family homes 300km away from their workplace. They want density, affordable and livable condos and townhouses near work, excellent public transport and green spaces to escape to.
Covid has taught us all the value of green space to mental and physical well-being. Hurricane Hazel taught of the value of conservation authorities. If we don't stop sprawl in its tracks, it's a slap in the face of the next generation.
Ontario, "Keep It Beautiful" should still be our motto. "Business At All Costs" is the current one. Anything less than conservation-minded development is cyncial and short-sighted.
Young people want change for the better, not dollars for the rich.
