I object.
Severe flooding is an inevitable outcome of this proposal. It stands a great risk to infrastructure, the agricultural industry, food security, as well as health and safety. The ecosystem will suffer in irreconcilable ways.
This proposal will accelerate the downfall of farming in Ontario. Ontario is already experiencing a major decline in farmers. Few can afford to reestablish operations on new farmland after going out of production. Many farmers will not return to the industry. The loss off original farmland severs family farming causing loss of generational experience and knowledge. The high cost of getting into farming is a huge obstacle to overcome for new operators. The process of farming new land will be slow and the agriculture industry will suffer.
Close proximity of residential land to farmland impedes on the agricultural industry as it forges inefficiency from compromises to standard farming practices, development on sewage and water systems negatively impact groundwater levels, and farmers concerns go unheard as they lose political influence in the area.
