This is not a viable solution both in the long and short run.

Water management will certainly become an issue during and after construction. Let’s not repeat the same mistakes by building in a flood prone area (re: Don valley housing). The idea of taking land from the green belt while protecting land elsewhere as a trade off doesn’t make sense. Ford is treating the land as if he is ripping up a tree for lumber and planting a new one 4 towns over as if that somehow makes the result neutral.

The green belt should remain a protected area for nature to thrive. The proposal reeks of a quick bandaid solution without considering the full weight of the downstream impacts development on this land can cause.

I, as much as anyone else, want to see balance brought to our housing market that has seen prices far outreach what the average person can afford. However, this is not the answer. Maybe consider banning short term rentals for a finite period which would flood thousands of units into the rental market.

In short… im sure the combined brain power of ford and his cabinet can figure out an alternative solution
