I'm opposed to the proposed legislation. I consider it is or should illegal to have cancelled programs funded by the Cap and Trade program in advance of posting the proposed legislation for comment on the Environmental Registry. It makes the gathering of comments a farce since the government has already decided to act and actually acted before seeking public input. This is truly disgraceful and shameful. In fact it appears the posting on the registry only has taken place because legal action was initiated against the government for acting without doing so in advance of passing the legislation. This is a spitting in the face of the public and apparently what we are now to expect from "our" government when it is run by the "Progressive" Conservative Party. Every MPP in that party is responsible, in my view, for this disgraceful activity.
The destruction of Ontario's climate action plan without any proposed replacement is an outrage. We are in a climate emergency that requires the most rapid possible reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to zero and immediate action to draw down carbon from the atmosphere. The evidence of the impacts of human caused climatic changes is already in front of us, and the pace of change is much faster than predicted even by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (which unfortunately has deferred to "least drama" predictions and does not present the science that contradicts this). The IPCC predictions are also now at least seven years out of date (four years since the latest report and three more since it closed the door to new evidence). We have already passed very dangerous tipping points including the death spiral of the Arctic Sea ice and the West Antarctic glacier that will raise global sea levels by 1-4 metres. It is very likely that we have also passed the tipping point for the Greenland ice cap which will add far more to sea levels. Increases of these size effectively doom nations like Bangladesh, Egypt and the small island states in the Pacific, and impose enormous consequences on coastal areas around the globe.
By abandoning climate action, the "Progressive" Conservatives in Ontario are committing ecocide. I believe they have decided to hell with most of the population of the world and are hoping that there personal wealth and power will somehow save their skins while most of the rest of the planetary population perishes or at least suffers terrible devastation. We need to be taking down the names of those committing such crimes so that their victims will know who to blame.
