With the effects of climate change becoming increasingly noticeable and damaging (take any of the recent hurricanes, tornadoes, wild fires etc. for example), I urge you not to cancel the Cap and Trade Act that is already in place. It is critical that action against climate change be taken at all levels of government and society; from choices made at the federal level, provincial level and individual level. Making such organized Acts and programs takes much time, effort and resources. To scrap an Act that already addresses Canada's climate change targets is in my opinion quite absurd, as it wastes the time, effort and resources used to make that Act and will use even more to make a new one to replace it (assuming that is part of the plan). In addition, these types of Cap and Trade programs have previously had positive results in other areas that adopted such programs, so I do not see that as a reason in favour of cancelling the Act currently in place. In addition, such programs can generate funds that can be directed towards other green initiatives or incentives such as rebates on hybrid or fully electric vehicles or on energy efficient lighting or home improvements. All of these together make it much easier and visible for individuals to be aware of greener choices and to be able to afford them, but if this Act is cancelled, such funds would also disappear. The provincial government cannot simply place the burden of meeting Canada's climate change targets on the federal government or the individual citizens to maker greener choices. The provincial government of Ontario should also make it a priority to meet these climate change goals and should take responsibility for them. As such, I urge you once again NOT to move forward with the Cap and Trade Cancellation Act.
