I oppose this proposal.
This proposal is a very expensive. It is the most expensive way to build new housing.
The cost of servicing homes on unserviced land is highest. The cost of bringing water, sewage, electricity, new schools, roads, transit and all other services to an area where there are no services or limited services is much, much higher than the cost of building in the land outside of the greenbelt.
The cost of providing services where there are none brings pressure to raise taxes to pay for these extraordinary costs. Either taxes or development fees must rise.
Additionally, this move sets a dangerous precedent, opening the door to undermine this solid resource. The Greenbelt needs to provide a stabile environment to protect the water table, provide a carbon sink, and shelter flora and fauna. It also shelters some of the most productive farmland in close proximity to the largest centres of population in the Province.
This is the wrong thing to do.
