The ecosystems located within the Greenbelt are a) ecologically sensitive, b) provide key services to humans and other organisms, and c) take decades, if not centuries to fully develop. Once developed, a wetland or fertile agricultural land cannot simply be replaced. Southern Ontario may need more housing, but I cannot believe that the Greenbelt is the best place to build these new developments. There is so much other land that can be either re-zoned or densified in order to meet growing housing demand. The Greenbelt is a natural gift that Bill 23 would squander. It cannot be given up this way.
