As an Ontario resident, citizen, and taxpayer, I do not support this plan to develop the Greenbelt.
This is protected land. It makes no sense to build here. We should be building up in cities and towns, not out, in rural areas where there is no infrastructure in place to support these proposed communities. This plan just creates more dependance on cars (very much not in line with the government's "Transit Oriented Communities" talking point).
We don't need to build more single-family homes. We need to build family-oriented units in cities, not studios and one bedroom apartments that sit empty after foreign investors buy them, driving up the cost of housing/the cost of rent. We have a housing AFFORDABILITY crisis, not a housing availability crisis. This province needs rent control and regulation of the housing market, NOT more expensive homes no one can afford to buy. How are immigrants even supposed to afford these homes anyway? How is the average Ontarian, who can't even afford to live in their own province, going to afford these homes? They aren't going to help anyone except for rich investors, developers, and those who can afford to buy investment properties.
Tackle the cost of living crisis. Housing should be a human right. We don't need this plan, we need you to help Ontarians actually afford to buy or rent the homes and units already available.
