In no uncertain terms, I do not support this proposal and consider it insane that it's on the table. Do not touch the Greenbelt, do not touch the wetlands/marshes/forests/ecosystems that it protects.

There is a reason that this area is protected - it's incredibly valuable land. When I say valuable, I do not mean that it's worth a lot of money. I mean that this is crucial land for natural ecosystem processes (like breeding, carbon storage, migration, nesting, etc.) that have no human-made replacement. When environment dies, so do humans. We need it to survive!

I agree that there is a housing crisis and that there needs to be action taken on accessible housing. But there are other avenues that do not involve the destruction of ecologically important areas.

I want this government who wrote this bill to come out into the field with me so that I can show them the changes that have been wrought over the past decades by irresponsible and reckless development. Everything is dying. We cannot find fish in the rivers, we cannot find animals in the field. Scorching hot summers are burning breeding areas and heating the waters. They are either leaving the increasingly inhabitable areas of Southern Ontario or dying outright.

It frustrates me that our elected officials do not understand the value of an untouched environment. It's an incredibly short-sighted and greedy take. In 20 years, when Southern Ontario is an urban wasteland & the wild has either fled or died, this bill will be looked at as a watershed moment for the security of the Southern Ontario environment.

As a biologist, as a young person, and as a citizen of Ontario who loves this province, I'm pleading that this will be shot down & other solutions can be found.
