I do not support any land being taken out of the GreenBelt. The proposed areas are home to some of the most productive soils in the country. In the wake of extreme rising food prices and global food supply chain disruptions due to climate change, war and trade, limiting our ability to produce food in Canada will be very detrimental. Houses can be built on marginal land, and they don't need to be built in the GTA, where the most productive farmland in the country is situated.
I would urge the province to look at more high-density housing solutions and look to develop on lands that are marginal and don't have the ability to produce food. I would also like to see the government seek the opinions of the younger generation, as they are the ones who have to live with the decisions made now. 50+ year old people might want to live in a low-density homes and have sprawling development, but the younger generation sees more value in preserving the environment and local food production and would happily live in a town house or apartment to conserve our resources.
Please do not remove land from the Greenbelt and keep farm land preservation top of mind.
