It's more expensive to build on greenfields. There's no service there: no roads, no sewers, no schools, no electricity, no water, not to mention transit and roads. This puts pressure to increase development charges and/or taxes. This makes housing more expensive. It's more effecient to build in serviced areas. That is, areas where there are already buildings are less expensive to develop.
Repurposing the greenbelt is a disgrace to the commitment that was made to preserve it. The Greenbelt provides great value and purpose to Ontario, and ignoring that in favour of urban sprawl building outwards instead of upwards, is a tragedy. Re-develop other lands and densify instead.
Do not let this process move forward.
