I am writing to oppose the government's decision to scrap the cap-and-trade plan. Ontario needs a real plan to address climate change and to reduce emissions. Such a plan will help people save energy and create jobs in the $26-trillion clean-energy economy.
Ontario should put a price on pollution, make polluters pay for their emissions and return the revenues thus raised to the people of Ontario so they can lower their carbon footprint.
We need legally binding emissions targets in line with Canada's obligations under the Paris Climate Agreement.
Ideally, Ontario will be powered by 100% clean energy before 2050, not within my expected lifetime, but for the sake of our children and grandchildren.
Ontario must end subsidies and handouts for fossil-fuel companies and redirect these funds to clean-energy solutions.
Thank you for your attention.
