This is a horrible precedent for the future of Ontario. We should be seeking to expand environmentally protected areas and build more housing density around existing transit hubs and already established urban areas not gift developers more profit so they can build unaffordable housing on protected land.
There is no chance this helps with housing affordability or access and it is a shameful breach of the public trust. The current government is stuck in a housing and development mode locked into outmoded thinking of more urban sprawl. A world class municipal area would be looking to the future through development plans that actually expand on environmental protections, sustainability, and support in conjunction with more affordable housing and expanded public transit options.
