I find this proposal to ammend the greenbelt to be absolutely ridiculous. First of all, Premier Ford stated that the greenbelt would not be opened for development, a statement that was clearly a lie.
Secondly, these proposed amendments reek of corruption. The globe and mail presented an article (linked below) showing that groups who have donated to the conservative party that own land in areas of the greenbelt that are now being proposed for development. The most concerning is Green Lane Bathhurst GP Inc. who bought land weeks before this proposal was made public. Could this be a coincidence? Sure. However with the globe's article pointing out that this group has donated to the Conservative party the odds of a coincidence seems very low. At this stage, it appears to be that the Conservative government is claiming this change is to benefit Ontarians and ease the housing shortage while the optics appear to be that they are assisting their donors in generating more wealth.
Because of the above reasons, I highly oppose this amendment to the greenbelt as it will not help ease the housing crisis so long as investors and corporations are still allowed to buy up real estate pricing out the 'little guy' the Conservatives claim to be on the side of.
