Opening up the Greenbelt to development is a policy error. The need to build more housing in Ontario is necessary for the future, but this is a mistake that will cater to the profits of developers and create housing that will cater to the upper classes. Affordable housing should be the target of development for the future that incorporates low income housing along with middle-class and higher income home building. This would mean creative development, closer to transit and the plan to use options outside of the Greenbelt which are available. This plan to open the Greenbelt favours the profits of the wealthy and not rationally targeting the housing crisis issues. A majority government mandate should still demand good public policy that maintains broad public interest and process.
